I am 30 years old and I just started oil painting. Am I too old to be able to grasp the concept of oil painting in hopes of one day becoming an expert? Because I heard a lot of people who are great painters usually start at a very young age. I Need some advice from artists on whether I should continue with it or find another hobby.Oil painting for begginers?
I am not an artist but two things come to mind. Many of the great oil painters started later in life. Grandma Moses is a name that springs to mind.
Second is the question of why you are doing it. If you are doing it as a hobby and you enjoy it then you are already successful. If you are trying it strictly as a business venture then it is hard to even pay for the materials.
Here, tell me if this guy is a success in art.

I just started oil painting last semester in college, and its fun. There were few old people in there as well. You never to old to love to paint or do hobbies. I think you should continue, after years of painting you will see the results of how well you done since you last started. I know when i first started oil painting class, i sucked. But after a couple of weeks i knotice the results i was getting better. So keep it up.
First off, there are no real expert painters. There are only really good ones or really bad ones, and the great ones are dead. I was 47 when i decided to learn how to paint with oils, i'm 50 now. I've never taken an art class and what i have learned so far came from library books, magazines i bought at the book store, and books i came across at a flea market or thrift store. I've got a regular job but became a good enough self taught artist that people have paid me to do work for them, so i guess studying all those book and all that practice is starting to pay off. No, one can never be to old to follow a dream, and the degree of success depends on how much effort you put into it. Just go for it. My art can be checked out at hellosanantonio.com under artist name ''Guerro''.
