Which is better for painting on canvases: oil or acryllic paints?

Oils are more respected because they been around for hundreds of years and all the master painters used them. Acrylics are pretty new but they don't have the acidic qualities that destroy the canvass over years, so when you use oils you have to make shure the canvas is primed before you use them.

Both work just fine, but I personally prefer oil paints. Sure, they take forever to dry, but in the end I think it's worth it.Which is better for painting on canvases: oil or acryllic paints?
it all depends o how much time you got to let it dry, the relative dust of the envirement and most importantly, the ';look'; of the painting itself... acrylic will stand up to dust and dry faster, but alot of visual effects arent repeatable with it
Oil is more versatile, it can easily be removed and re-painted...but it needs a longer time to dry. Acrylic: once it is on the canvas, it will stay there and correcting it or painting over it will be a problem. I have done both...and have finally decided to stick with oil, it is somehow more attractive.

You will find your own preference, just experience a lot with paints.

Good luck.
either really. i like acryllic personally.
