Should I put Gloss on my oil painting or leave it like that?WHAT WILL LOOK GOOD?

I have finished my oil painting.should i put glaze on it or just leave it plain.WHAT WILL LOOK BEST....Should I put Gloss on my oil painting or leave it like that?WHAT WILL LOOK GOOD?
Oil paintings should only be varnished when they are completely dry which can take 1 to 60 years.

In the meantime, you can put a ';retouch varnish'; on the painting which allows oxygen to continue to cure the oil paint but will still protect the painting from dirt and scratches. When the painting is fully cured, a permanent varnish can be applied directly over the retouch varnish. Retouch varnish comes in gloss, semi-gloss and matte.

Gloss varnish will reveal the most depth in your colors but the glare on this varnish can be very harsh. Matte varnish will reduce the glare, but tend to flatten the colors in your painting. Sometimes a matte varnish will make the surface of your painting look slightly milky. Semi-gloss varnish has characteristics of both gloss and matte varnishes.Should I put Gloss on my oil painting or leave it like that?WHAT WILL LOOK GOOD?
In order to be protected a oil painting needs to be varnished. It provideds a layer between the air and the paint.Gloss or matt is a personal choice.
What kind of lighting will the painting be around. Will it be professionally displayed with it's own lighting.

Just consider how the light will reflect off the painting if you have it glazed. Will it look too glossy/shiny as to obscure the painting?

I say, if the painting looks good now, then leave it the way it is. If someone purchases it, let them add the gloss coat.
