I purchased a painting years ago. It was at a hotel in Miami. The painting is on a canvas and has a rough texture to it when you touch it with your hands. You can even see it when you get close to it. The colors are VERY VERY bright.Is this painting painted in oil?

A painting on canvas which has a ';rough texture'; is probably done with oil or acrylic paint.
Without seeing the actual painting it would be difficult to be certain.
You could take it to a fine-art auctioneer for appraisal.
