you can use either. it is just a matter of preferrance. the hog hair will be coarser than synthetic and you wont be able to get as fine of work with it.Hog hair or synthetic bristle for oil painting?
Synthetic bristles are recommended for acrylics. The paint flows off the bristles more freely, and here's why;
Natural hog hairs have tiny split ends and burrs on them that hold onto the paint and don't let go... that makes the paint clump on the brush and also makes them difficult to clean.
Go with synthetic if you like a smooth finish or if you like to blend - you'll see the difference.
