I live on an island and I don't have access to traditional art supplies so I will need to be very creative to solve this problem. Thanks!High heat and humidity are causing thickening and globing of my oils. I want thin, responsive paint. Help?
There is no difference between ';real turpentine'; and the term ';turps.'; Quality turpentine is Rectified Turpentine aka English Turpentine and Double and Triple Distilled Turpentine. There is very little difference in the quality or effectiveness of any of these named products. The turpentine to avoid is Turpenoid, especially the Natural Turpenoid. These are only suitable for cleaning brushes and should not be used to mix with mediums or paint. The turpentine available in most hardware stores is low grade and only suitable for cleaning brushes.
A commonly available product is Windsor %26amp; Newton's ';English Distilled Turpentine.';

Real turpentine, not turps, might thin your paint. I used to use it donkeys years ago, before all the odourless thinners came out. You will get it at your hardware store. Hope that helps. And good for you that you let nothing stop you, even on your island.
