They seem to be non-toxic, but check MSDS data sheets for the brand you wife uses.
I appreciate you being so cautious and considerate towards your family, but I am sure there are many other things worse that you need to watch for: house cleaners, fruit and vegetable herbicides, shampoo, milk, food additives, nail polish, etc, etc. I am a health care worker (OSHA) trained and an artist. I would not worry too much fabout this one.
';Water soluble oil paints are a great alternative if you love to paint in oil but have had problems with the turpentine or mineral spirits used with traditional oils. Or maybe their reputation for toxicity has kept you from trying oil painting at all.';
';# non-toxic, easy-cleanup oils! Winsor %26amp; Newton Artisan Water Mixable Oil Colours Sets offer the appearance and working properties of oil paints, but thin and clean up with water. Made from modified linseed and Learn More';Are Water Soluble oil paints toxic or harmful. My wife is pregnant and a painter, are these paints harmful?
Water soluble oil paints are just regular oil paint formulated for easier clean-up. Once the water evaporates they react just like other oils as far as drying time, workability, and varnishing.
Normal cautions should be sufficient. Be careful with the cadmiums, cobalts, pthalo's and mixing mediums.Are Water Soluble oil paints toxic or harmful. My wife is pregnant and a painter, are these paints harmful?
I'd be very cautious. Here's why. A lot of the pigments are still derived from poisonous materials. Water-soluable is a problem for the following reason: Absorption through the skin. The relationship between a pregnant woman and her fetus is mostly not understood in a specific way. All I can suggest is that whatever is ingested by the mom-to-be ands up in the the blood, and the blood exchanges everything with the ';apple of your eye'; to be. Where a life-to-be is involved, and you obviously have this concern, err on the side of safety. Your wife is an artist? She can do what so may art teachers do for their careers, create sketches. Watercolors, drawings, etc. These are the frozen ideas that emerge as paintings at some other point in time (or not as the case may be). By the way, watercolors are essentially dyes that are extracted from petroleum products as I have it.
Your concern and sensitivity can only be rewarded by your caution.
Keep yourselves well. The art will flourish in its due time. Best wishes. Enjoy your soon to be new family
They are pretty safe according to the MSDS (material safety data sheets) for the paints by Artisan.
The only toxic ingredient is in the few colors that contain cadmium, but according to the MSDS this is only possibly dangerous if the paints are sprayed, which is not their intended use.
She is not eating them, correct? LOL! I mean comeon.....they are water soluble and have no odor (I know since I am an artist) They are not harmful unless she is spreading them on her sandwhiches or something. LOL
